U.T. Chandigarh, 07th September 2024:- The Department of Social Welfare and Health Services has successfully conducted a series of impactful events aimed at promoting maternal and child health across Chandigarh. Key Events: 
1. Community-Based “Godhbharai” Event at Daria: The traditional “Godhbharai” ceremony was held at Daria, celebrating expectant mothers who have entered their third trimester. The event, designed to honor and support pregnant women, was attended by those enrolled in Anganwadis. Participants received POSHTIK Thalis, which included nutritious green leafy vegetables, reinforcing the importance of a healthy diet during pregnancy. 
2. Lecture on the First 1000 Days at Maloya: A comprehensive lecture on the critical "First 1000 Days" of a child’s life was organized at Maloya. This session covered the crucial period from pregnancy planning to the child's second birthday, emphasizing the significance of early nutrition and care in ensuring healthy development. 
3. Swasth Balak Balika Spardha at Circle 52: An engaging competition, the Swasth Balak Balika Spardha, was held at the Anganwadi Centre, Circle 52. This event aimed to foster health awareness among children enrolled in Anganwadi Centres. Participants showcased their skills, and each child was awarded gifts, celebrating their health and growth. 
4. Educational Activities Across 450 Anganwadi Centres: Educational initiatives were carried out across 450 Anganwadi Centres, featuring a range of activities including lectures on overall nutrition and the need for dietary supplements, Prevention of anemia and the importance of a healthy diet, Kitchen gardening and personal hygiene, Awareness on birth preparation, food fortification, and micronutrients, the role of herbal plants in nutrition Growth monitoring of children enrolled under ICDS was also conducted to ensure their well-being. 
5. Home Visits by Anganwadi Centres: All 450 Anganwadi Centres conducted home visits to support new pregnant women and mothers of newborns. These visits focused on promoting complementary breastfeeding practices, providing essential guidance and support during the crucial early stages of child-rearing. 
These initiatives reflect the ongoing commitment to improving maternal and child health through community engagement, education, and direct support. The department remains dedicated to fostering a healthier future for all residents of Chandigarh.
