Una, September 6 - The sixth convocation of the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Una will be held on September 7. Padmashree Dr. Myswamy Annadurai, senior scientist of ISRO and director of Chandrayaan mission, will attend the ceremony virtually as the chief guest and address the students.

During a press conference on Friday, the institute's director Professor Manish Gaur said that 260 students will be honoured this year, including 114 students from Computer Science and Engineering, 88 students from Electronics and Communication Engineering, and 58 students from Information Technology. Also, 18 students from the 2019 and 2020 batches will be awarded medals for their excellent academic performance.
Professor Gaur highlighted the major achievements of the institute and said that new courses on cyber security and data science have been introduced keeping in mind the changing requirements of the industry. Apart from this, 294 seats have been made available for the academic session 2024-25, up from 207 last year.
Despite the pandemic, the institute achieved excellent placement results, with the highest package being Rs 32 lakh. The institute has worked on developing state-of-the-art academic and research facilities and measures such as zero waste campus and water treatment system to make its campus modern and sustainable.
In addition, the institute has filed five patents and received a research project worth Rs 1 crore. The institute has organized 8 conferences and workshops, and published 44 research papers in reputed journals, conferences and book chapters in 2023-24.
Professor Gaur appreciated the rapid growth and development of the Institute and said, "Our achievements reflect the hard work and dedication of our students, faculty and staff. We are committed to sustain this progress and advance even further in academic excellence and research innovation."
