Nawanshahr - Last night, the district Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar units of Istri Jagriti Manch and Indian Federation of Trade Unions held a candlelight march at Nawanshahr demanding strict punishment for the alleged culprits of raping and murdering a lady doctor in Kolkata. The march started from the local Baradri Bagh and ended at Ambedkar Chowk.
Addressing on this occasion, Iftu State President Kulwinder Singh Waraich, Assistant Secretary Avtar Singh Tari, District Secretary of Democratic Rights Council Jasbir Deep, Parveen Kumar Nirala, District Secretary of Women's Jagriti Manch Rupinder Kaur Durgapur, Harbans Kaur Nawanshahr, Balwinder Kaur Nawanshahr, Manjit Kaur Alachour Kiranjit Kaur said that on the night of August 9 at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Calcutta, a lady doctor Abhiya (fictitious name) who was resting in the seminar room inside the hospital during 36 hours of continuous duty, was brutally assaulted. Not only was she gang-raped, but she was brutally murdered.
The college administration first tried to suppress it by calling it a case of suicide But when the facts of rape and brutally brutal murder came out in the medical examination, the accused named Sanjay Roy, who is said to be a police volunteer, was arrested and tried to avoid the case. When this case raised the issue of safety of women doctors and nurses and health workers during night duty in medical colleges and hospitals across the country and demanded the identification and arrest of other culprits involved in this heinous incident. So Aimj and other government health organizations threatened the striking doctors to end the strike based on the Supreme Court decisions.
The Bengal government also tried to suppress that truth by changing the principal of this college to another college. In which it was revealed that accused Sanjay Roy has a warm relationship with the principal. The leaders said that the matter will be heard in the Supreme Court on September 5. It is not just about one incident but the safety of all working women. In one such incident, a nurse working in a private hospital in Rudrapur, Udhamsingh Nagar, Uttarakhand, was beaten and strangled with a scarf after she was going home on duty and was raped by the accused.
In Bihar's Muzaffarpur, a minor student was abducted from her home and gang-raped and brutally killed by cutting her breasts. Questions have been raised about the safety of working women across the country, especially during night duty. In such times, the government has given the right to put women on night duty to the employers and has also left the safety of women to the employers. Puneet Kumar Bachuri, Harilal and Hare Ram leaders were also present on this occasion.
