Una, September 4 - Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal launched the 'Ujjwal Una' campaign with the aim of making Una district plastic waste free. The initiative was formally launched at a program held at the DRDA auditorium on Wednesday. Under this campaign, a four-stage disposal process will be adopted for the management of plastic waste. Under this process, garbage will be collected from the houses in each panchayat and brought to the segregation unit built at the gram panchayat level and it will be disposed of properly. After this, the waste of several panchayats will be sent to the micro segregation unit built at the cluster level. Then it will be transferred to the block level unit, from where it will be sent for use by industrial units.
The Deputy Commissioner directed all the development block officers to implement the campaign successfully and called upon them to take it forward in collaboration with the Panchayat representatives. He said that this campaign will be effective in making the district plastic waste free and making cleanliness a part of lifestyle. He stressed on changing the mindset of people towards cleanliness and ensuring community participation.
Special campaign from 14 September to 2 October in Swachhata Hi Seva campaign
The Deputy Commissioner also took details of the activities to be carried out in the district under the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' campaign. He informed that under the Swachhata Hi Seva Abhiyan-2024, a special campaign will be run in Una district from September 14 to October 2. In this campaign, various activities will be organized to promote cleanliness, public participation and public awareness.
Make cleanliness a habit
The Deputy Commissioner called for running the Swachhta Abhiyan in the district on mission mode and emphasized on incorporating cleanliness in everyday behavior. He said that active participation of all departments and public participation will be ensured in the campaign. For this, ADC Una has been appointed as the nodal officer.
These activities will be done in Swachhata Hi Seva campaign
Cleaning of water bodies and plastic waste collection drives will also be undertaken under the campaign, which will include cleaning of rivers, drains, ravines and traditional water bodies, along with identification and cleaning of garbage-affected hotspots followed by beautification.
Under the cleanliness and awareness activities, cleanliness drives will be conducted in schools, Anganwadi centres and government institutions. Tree plantation and beautification activities will also be organised. Students, Anganwadi workers and government employees will be made aware about waste management.
In addition, health check-up camps, awareness workshops and camps will be organized at the block level for Safai Mitras to link them with welfare schemes. At the conclusion of the campaign, a program will be organized on October 2 to felicitate all stakeholders for their contribution.

In the meeting, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mahendra Pal Gurjar assured the Deputy Commissioner to implement the campaign with full promptness. He said that as per his guidelines, all the concerned departments have been made aware of their responsibilities. It will be ensured that everyone together makes this campaign a success and sets an example by doing better work.
Apart from Additional Deputy Commissioner Mahendra Pal Gurjar, DRDA Project Officer Shaifali Sharma, all Block Development Officers, District Program Officer Narendra Kumar and officers from various departments were present in the meeting.
