Dantewada, September 3 - 9 Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Bastar district on Tuesday. This information was given by a senior police officer.
Inspector General of Police, Bastar Range Sunder Raj P said that the firing between the two sides started when the security forces were conducting an anti-Naxal operation on the border of Dantewada and Bijapur districts.
The operation was launched after a tip-off about Maoists hiding in the area, involving personnel of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
He said that there was a prolonged exchange of fire between the two sides, after which nine bodies of Maoist 'wearing uniform' people were recovered from the scene. Apart from this, a large amount of ammunition, bullets and coins have also been recovered from the incident site.
