
Project Sarathi Expands to AEC, ACC in PGIMER
Project Sarathi, an initiative launched on May 6, 2024, at PGIMER, Chandigarh, is making significant strides in enhancing patient care and student involvement. Initially focused on the Outpatient Department (OPD) in New OPD Complex only, the project has now successfully expanded to OPDs of Advanced Eye Centre (AEC) and Advanced Cardiac Centre (ACC).
Project Sarathi, an initiative launched on May 6, 2024, at PGIMER, Chandigarh, is making significant strides in enhancing patient care and student involvement. Initially focused on the Outpatient Department (OPD) in New OPD Complex only, the project has now successfully expanded to OPDs of Advanced Eye Centre (AEC) and Advanced Cardiac Centre (ACC). Over 120 students from various colleges have already participated, with many more expressing interest in joining this impactful program.
Intended to assist patients in navigating the hospital systems, Project Sarathi has received an overwhelming response. With its success at PGIMER, the model is being replicated at other institutions, including GMCH-32, GMSH-16, and all medical colleges in Himachal Pradesh.
Prof. Vivek Lal, Director PGIMER, expressed his satisfaction with the project’s progress, stating, “Project Sarathi is a testament to our commitment to patient-centered care. The enthusiasm of the students and their dedication to helping patients is truly inspiring. By encouraging students to engage with patients beyond navigation, we aim to create a more empathetic healthcare environment. As we expand this model to centres, we hope to create a sustainable framework that benefits patients across the hospital.”
Detailing the road map of the Project,* Mr. Pankaj Rai, Deputy Director* (**Administration) PGIMER **stated, “To ensure the project’s long-term success, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are being developed to prevent misuse and maximize the efficient use of resources. Additionally, a society is being registered to create a corpus for meeting perennial expenses, ensuring that Project Sarathi continues
to thrive.”
Deputy Director(Administration), PGIMER further highlighted the importance of collaboration in sustaining the project, “We are involving NGOs, B.Ed students, and other stakeholders to ensure the sustainability of Project Sarathi.With its continued expansion and the ongoing support of the community, Project Sarathi is poised to make a lasting impact on patient care across the region.”
