Hoshiarpur - The families of Kargil martyrs and ex-servicemen were honored by the District Defense Services Welfare Office (DDSWO) Hoshiarpur today during a special program in the office premises here, celebrating the Silver Jubilee of Kargil Vijay Divas. The Central Bureau of Communications, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, in collaboration with DDSWO, organized a one-day photo exhibition on Kargil, depicting how the war was fought in 1999. Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Hoshiarpur Mr. Preet Inder Singh, who was the chief guest on the occasion, along with Secretary District Defense Services Welfare Office, Hoshiarpur, Wing Commander Gurpreet Singh (Retd) and Field Publicity Officer of CBC Mr. Rajesh Bali at the Martyr's Memorial. offered flowers. Ex-servicemen also paid their respects at the memorial. SDM Shri Preet Inder and Wing Commander Singh presented checks of Rs.5100/- to the families of 20 Kargil martyrs from different districts. Three of them, who had gone to visit the Kargil War Memorial, will be handed over their checks later. CBC awarded specially designed badges to all family members and ex-servicemen. About 100 ex-servicemen and families of martyrs participated in the programme. Paying homage to the martyrs while celebrating Vijay Diwas, SDM Singh called on their families and ex-servicemen to work together with the state government to end the evil of drugs, another enemy of the society. He said that it is time for them to come forward and tell about those who are ruining the youth of Punjab by selling drugs. DSP City Mr. Amar Nath participated as guest of honor in this program. Wing Commander Gurpreet Singh (retd) thanked the audience and appreciated the role of our army in defeating the enemy in the Kargil war. This war was fought in very difficult terrain and adverse environment. He read out the message of Punjab Revenue Minister Shri Brahm Shankar Sharma Gimpa who could not attend the function due to some reason to the families of the martyrs and others. Field Publicity Officer Mr. Rajesh Bali said that today is a very sacred and celebratory day as we also remember those brave men, thanks to whom the country is celebrating the Silver Jubilee of Kargil Vijay Divas. Thanked the parents and families of those martyrs who sacrificed their lives protecting our borders. Apart from dignitaries, the photo exhibition at Kargil attracted a large number of people. Ex-servicemen who were part of the Kargil operation appreciated the efforts of the Central Bureau of Communications in organizing the exhibition here. Earlier, a cultural troupe of CBC presented a musical play on the Kargil war, which was applauded by all and brought tears to many people's eyes. The students of Government Girls School located in Railway Mandi Road presented a patriotic song. Six cadet platoons of the National Cadet Corps guided the Chief Guest and others.
