Two day workshop on disaster management begins in Una

Una, July 19 - A two-day workshop on disaster management in Una district began on Friday in the DRDA auditorium. Additional Deputy Commissioner Mahendra Pal Gurjar said that the purpose of this workshop organized by the District Disaster Management Authority Una is to form a district level inter-agency group for disaster management and to make it dynamic.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Mahendra Pal Gurjar said that the purpose of this workshop organized by the District Disaster Management Authority Una is to form a district level inter-agency group for disaster management and to make it dynamic. Apart from this, there will be an emphasis on the importance and measures of establishing better mutual coordination with effective planning of disaster management and capacity building of officers and institutions with practical information.
He said that on the first day of the workshop, the emphasis was on better coordination between government and non-government organizations in the prevention, handling and proper management of natural and man-made disasters in the district and effective relief and rescue work.
Mr Gurjar informed that in the workshop, subject experts Navneet Yadav, Anuradha and Sindhu Luna from Shimla-based humanitarian organisation 'Dooars' gave information on various aspects of disaster risk management, standards of humanitarian assistance and humanitarian principles, and assessment of immediate needs for post-disaster relief and rescue.
During this period, along with giving complete information about the legal framework and system of disaster management to the departmental officers and representatives of various non-governmental organizations, practical aspects were also discussed.
In the workshop, knowledge was spread on important concepts and approaches of disaster management, crisis, exposure, vulnerability and capacity. During this, various departmental officials as well as 14 non-governmental organizations working in the district were informed about forming an inter-agency group in the district to improve the quality of disaster relief and rescue.
Suman Chahal, Training and Capacity Building Coordinator, District Disaster Management Authority, Una, conducted the workshop.
Along with government departments, various NGOs also participated enthusiastically in the workshop
Red Cross Society Una, Human Rights and Protection Cell Welfare Association Una, Rishit Foundation Tahliwal, Chintpurni Vikas Samiti Amb, Guru Ka Langar Seva Samiti, Devbhoomi Foundation, Ek Mauka Ek Umeed Una, Sun Rise Education Society Una, Ankur Gagret, Blood Lines and Social Welfare Committee Una, Ekal Nari Krishi Sahakari Sabha and Swan Women Federation organizations participated in the workshop.
On this occasion DSP Una Ajay Thakur, Assistant Commandant Anil Patial from 1st IRBn Bangarh, Deputy Commandant Home Guard Dheeraj Sharma from 12th Battalion and other officers were present.
