
UT Administration reviews preparations for upcoming monsoon season

Chandigarh:- UT Adviser to Administrator Sh Rajeev Verma reviewed the flood prevention & water-logging related preparations with Departments of Chandigarh Administration. In the meeting Municipal Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Chief Conservator of Forests, Health Secretary, Education Secretary, Engineering Secretary, SSP Traffic, Chief Engineer & Chief Engineer MC were present, who briefed about preparations done by respective Departments for monsoon season. Deputy Commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh briefed that extensive cleaning & de-siltation work has been done by concerned Departments at Sukhna Choe, Patiala ki Rao and N-Choe to avoid last year's flood situation. He informed that prohibitory orders under section 144 CrPC have been issued banning entry of people & cattle in water bodies - lakes, ponds, rivers, drains etc during monsoon to avoid death by drowning. 315 Aapda Mitras are being deployed by DC office during monsoon. Adviser UT directed concerned Departments to deploy Rapid Reaction Teams at all 3 natural drains to ensure that there is no clogging of water causeways at Kishangarh, Bapu Dham, Industrial Area, Makhan Majra, Dhanas & Khudda Lahora. Directions were issued to Chief Engineer-UT & Municipal Commissioner to strengthen & raise the height of water causeways on Sukhna Choe at Bapudham & Industrial Area respectively in next 6 months. Commissioner MC informed that MC has cleaned all storm water drains & road gullies by end June and now repeat cleaning is being done in July. Chief Engineer UT was directed on similar lines to complete cleaning of road gullies & storm water drains on the roads in their jurisdiction in next 1 week. SSP Traffic assured that additional reams have been formed to manage traffic in situation of water-logging & caved in roads. He also informed that due coordination being done with MC & Engg Dept for prompt action on reported incidents of fallen tree, disruption of power lines & water-logging.
