Hoshiarpur - Under the guidance of Chief Minister Punjab Hon'ble Bhagwant Singh Mann, Director General of Police, Punjab, Chandigarh Gaurav Yadav, Special Director General of Police, STF Punjab, Chandigarh Kuldeep Singh and Deputy Inspector General of Police, Jalandhar Range Harmanbir Singh, an awareness campaign was launched against drug abuse in the state of Punjab and with the aim of encouraging youth and children towards sports, District Police Hoshiarpur under the leadership of Senior Captain Police Hoshiarpur Surendra Lamba organized the finals of football, volleyball, basketball and kabaddi at the police line from 24 to 26 June at police station level, from 26 to 27 June at sub-divisional level and from 28 to 29 June 2024. About 500 players from a total of 42 teams participated in these finals. It is worth mentioning here that apart from this, more than 1000 players participated in a total of 100 teams at police station, sub-division and district level in this 6-day tournament. On this occasion, Deputy Speaker of Punjab Assembly Jai Krishna Singh Rowdy distributed prizes to the winning players and encouraged the players to participate in sports in future as well. The teams which stood first, second and third in these various sports competitions. The winning teams were given first prize of Rs 11000, second prize of Rs 5100 and third prize of Rs 2100 and a memento. Apart from this, football, volleyball and basketball were also distributed to encourage other participating teams to play sports.
Among the winning teams in the football competition, village Baddo police station Garhshankar got first place, village Jian police station Chabewal got second place, village Mehtiana police station Mehtiana got third place. In volleyball competition, first place was secured by Tada police station Tanda, second place by Mukeria police station Mukeria and third place by Bulowal police station Bulowal. In basketball competition, Tanda police station got first place, Bulowal police station Bulowal got second place, Purhira police station Model Town got third place. In the Kabaddi competition, village Haibowal Thana Garhshankar got the first place, village Bagpur Thana Haryana got the second place and Daulatpur Gila Thana Haryana got the third place. The purpose of organizing these games is to spread awareness against drug abuse in Hoshiarpur district, to encourage the young generation to stay away from drugs and take up sports and also to increase the participation of common people in the fight against drug abuse started by the police and civil administration. Registered and unregistered sports clubs/teams of Hoshiarpur district were invited to participate in these games.
