Chandigarh Gears Up for International Day of Yoga with Grand Rehearsals at Rock Garden

Chandigarh, 19th June, 2024: The heart of the city beautiful today turned into a yogic mode as around 2000 participants from across the tricity gathered at Rock Garden, Chandigarh for the rehearsals of the International Day of Yoga. The rehearsals featured enthusiastic participation from ITBP, Police Defence forces, CREST, various yoga foundations, school children, and individuals selected from yoga orientation training camps. Secretary Health U.T. Chandigarh, Sh. Ajay Chagti, meticulously inspected all arrangements for the International Yoga Day. Sh. Chagti ensured that the venue was well-prepared to accommodate the large number of participants, with adequate provisions for water, medical aid, and other essential services. He also reviewed the arrangements for assisting divyangs and senior citizens to ensure they could comfortably participate in the event. Additionally, Sh. Chagti coordinated with different departments to ensure smooth conduct of the event, addressing any last-minute issues and ensuring all protocols were in place for a successful International Yoga Day. The rehearsals included the performance of Yoga Protocol asanas, divided into different sections. The session began with loosening up exercises such as neck bending and body twisting. The second section, performed in Standing Posture, comprised six yoga exercises including Tadasana (palm tree posture) and Vriksasana (tree posture). The third section focused on Sitting Postures, featuring five asanas including Sasankasana (hare posture) and Vakrasana (spinal twist posture). This was followed by three Prone Postures, including Bhujangasana (Cobra Posture). The Supine Postures section comprised three asanas: Setubandhasana (bridge posture), Pavanmuktasana (wind releasing posture), and Savasana (dead body posture). The session concluded with breathing exercises like Kapalbhati and Pranayama, followed by a brief meditation (dhyan) and the Shanti Path. With the rehearsals successfully completed, Chandigarh is now fully prepared to celebrate the International Day of Yoga with grandeur and enthusiasm. The city is set to showcase its commitment to promoting health, harmony, and well-being through the practice of yoga. On 21st June Botanical Garden Sarangpur, all government dispensaries, High Court, District Court, and approximately 100 other sites in U.T., Chandigarh will also participate in this event. The Governor of Punjab and Administrator of UT Chandigarh will honor the event as the Chief Guest.
