Nawanshahr - Indian Federation of Trade Unions (IFTU) Punjab has invited all IFTU units in the state to strongly oppose the Labor Code. IFTU Punjab state president Kulwinder Singh Waraich and state press secretary Jasbir Deep have said that the central government of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance has recently announced its move to implement the 4 anti-worker labor code.
The leaders said that the working class should prepare to intensify the struggle for the abolition of the four labor codes. The Narendra Modi-led NDA government has assumed power on 9 June 2024 after the BJP failed to secure majority on its own in the recent Lok Sabha elections. Shockingly, its first announcement is to enact four anti-worker labor codes. The national committee of IFTU has already demanded the withdrawal of this decision and the repeal of 4 Labor Code. He said that BJP's Modi government has been working as an agent of corporate for the last ten years.
They are entrusted with the responsibility of increasing the assets, wealth and profits of all corporate sectors of the country. That government attacked the rights and facilities of the working class, which this country has been fighting for for decades. It was for the benefit of the imperialists and the big business associated with them. Absence of minimum wages, temporary jobs, no ESI, PF coverage and rapid rise in worker deaths in industrial accidents have become the norm. There have been many protests and strikes across the country against these four pro-corporate anti-labour codes and the demand for enforcement of existing labor laws. Although in some states where the BJP is not in power. has started the process of framing rules for implementation. But due to the struggles of the working class, the Modi government at the center did not implement the code before the 2024 elections. It postponed the implementation as it was feared by the BJP to lose its votes and seats in the elections.
Now that the NDA government has been formed, it has started its tenure by attacking the working class. 4 Enforcing the Labor Code means attacking the lives of crores of working class people in the country. We demand from the National Democratic Alliance Government to withdraw the announcement of implementation of the 4th Labor Code. He said that all IFTU units should immediately start protest programs in various forms across Punjab against this decision and involve maximum number of working class.
