Chandigarh Announces Dry Days for Lok Sabha Elections 2024 and Bye Elections

Chandigarh,21st,May , 2024: The Chief Electoral Officer, Chandigarh, in compliance with the directions from the Election Commission of India, has announced the schedule for Dry Days during the upcoming General Elections to Lok Sabha 2024 and Bye Elections to various Assembly Constituencies (ACs). In accordance with Section 135-C of the Representation of People Act, 1951, and Rule 37(9) of the Punjab Liquor License Rules 1956 (applicable to U.T. Chandigarh), the Excise & Taxation Commissioner, Mr. Vinay Pratap Singh, IAS, has ordered the closure of all liquor vends/shops in Union Territory of Chandigarh and specified areas along the inter-state borders as follows:

Chandigarh), the Excise & Taxation Commissioner, Mr. Vinay Pratap Singh, IAS, has ordered the closure of all liquor vends/shops in Union Territory of Chandigarh and specified areas along the inter-state borders as follows: Schedule for Dry Days in Chandigarh: From: 30th May 2024 (6:00 PM) to 1st June 2024 (6:00 PM) On the counting day: 4th June 2024 (whole day) Areas within 3 Kms of Inter-State Borders with Haryana and Punjab: Haryana Date of Poll: 25th May 2024 (Saturday) Dry Days: 23rd May 2024 (6:00 PM) to 25th May 2024 (6:00 PM) & 4th June 2024 (whole day) Punjab Date of Poll: 30th May 2024 (Thursday) Dry Days: 30th May 2024 (6:00 PM) to 1st June 2024 (6:00 PM) & 4th June 2024 (whole day) During the specified dry days, no spirituous, fermented, or intoxicating liquors or substances of a similar nature shall be sold, given, or distributed in any hotels, restaurants, taverns, clubs, community centres, CSD canteens, shops, or any public or private places within U.T. Chandigarh and the specified border areas. Additionally, the storage of liquor by individuals will be strictly curtailed, and enforcement of restrictions on the storage of liquor in unlicensed premises will be rigorously implemented.
