Una, 15 May:-  A one-day workshop on fire safety and legal compliance in huts was organized in Block Development Office Haroli on Wednesday under the chairmanship of SDM Haroli Rajeev Thakur. About 70 participants including slum land owners, concerned Patwari and concerned Panchayat Secretaries participated in the workshop.
During this, the SDM said that disaster is a sudden event, it cannot be stopped, but with prior preparation and understanding, we can reduce the damage caused. All the participants present in the workshop were instructed to follow the fire safety rules and rules as per the Disaster Management Act 2005.
Fire safety awareness camps will be organized in Panchayats
Rajiv Thakur instructed the officers present in the workshop to organize awareness camps on fire safety in all the concerned Panchayats as soon as possible with the help of Panchayat Pradhan, Ward Panch and youth volunteers trained by the District Disaster Management Authority and Aapda Mitra volunteers. In the workshop, losses incurred due to fire incidents in slums during the last years and case studies of horrific fire incidents in slums were also discussed. He said that all Patwaris and Panchayat Secretaries will ensure that huts are not built on government land and huts built on private land are built as per the safety rules of the Disaster Management Act and there should be a distance of about three meters between them. It should be away from petrol pumps and sensitive places.
