SSP Varun Sharma, SP (City) Sarfaraz Alam and Additional District Election Officer Navreet Kaur Sekhon were also present on this occasion. District Election Officer Shaukat Ahmed Pare said that the district administration and the district police have completed all the arrangements to conduct the Lok Sabha elections in a fair, transparent and fear-free manner. He appealed to the voters and said that the administration will provide a peaceful environment to the voters So they can be a part of a strong democracy by exercising their right to vote without any fear or apprehension. He said that with the commencement of nominations for the elections to be held on June 1, Thursday from 7 am to 6 pm, static surveillance teams formed in all the assembly constituencies have started checking the vehicles by installing barricades on the roads. . Apart from this, the teams of flying squads are also actively checking.
Shaukat Ahmed Pare said that the nomination papers will be received from May 7 to May 14 at the Deputy Commissioner's Court Room (Room No. 108) from 11 am to 3 pm. He said that the nomination papers will also be received on May 10, the day of Lord Parashumram Jayanti Because this day is not a holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act 1881. Apart from this, May 11 will be the second Saturday and May 12 will be a holiday. He said that the scrutiny of the nominations will be held on May 15, Wednesday and the candidates will be able to withdraw their nominations till May 17. He said that the list of all the candidates will be finalized on the same day and election marks will be allotted to the independent candidates. He urged all the contesting candidates to ensure strict adherence to the instructions of the Election Commission of India.
The district election officer said that the district administration, according to the instructions of the Election Commission, has prepared various forms before May 12 to cast the votes of the senior citizens above 85 years of age, the disabled and the election staff posted on any kind of duty for the elections. Complete arrangements have also been made for reimbursement. He said that no voter should be deprived of his right to vote But exercise the right to vote with full enthusiasm. He said that the sweep team of the district is also spreading awareness about voting So that the target of casting more than 70 percent votes set by the Election Commission can be met.
On this occasion, SSP Varun Sharma said that the district police has cracked down on the wrong elements to conduct the Lok Sabha elections in a peaceful and fear-free manner. He said that in view of the instructions of the Election Commission of India and the Chief Electoral Officer Punjab, 85 percent of licensed weapons have been deposited in the district. Apart from this, there are 14 interstate checkpoints on the border of Patiala district bordering Haryana under the surveillance of CCTV cameras 24 hours a day. Where a strict watch is being kept on the entry of drugs, illicit liquor, weapons and suspicious persons. He said that the flying squad teams are also fully active to stop the use of 'money and muscle power' to engage the voters towards them and for surprise checking.
The SSP further informed that the Patiala Police has seized Rs 20 lakh worth of illegal cash and 19 kg of silver after the election. He said that a close watch will be kept on drugs, illegal liquor and ammunition and illegal cash in the district. District Public Relations Officer Hakam Thapar, DSP Raj Kumar Sharma and other officials were also present on this occasion.
