Patiala, May 28 - A professor of Punjabi University, Patiala, has been found guilty of allegedly asking a student to have sex and even after the agreement, getting the girl allegedly attacked is becoming costly. A student studying MA in Government Mahindra College got compartment in BA. When the student had to make several rounds to clear the compartment and get the DMC, the university professor asked the girl to have physical relations in exchange for her work. When the matter reached the college management, an inquiry committee was formed against the professor.
After this the committee put pressure on the girl and ended the matter with her resignation. On the afternoon of 22nd May, when the said student was returning home from college, some unknown person attacked her with a stone. The injured girl complained to the police. Based on the statements of the girl, the Kotwali police have registered a case against the accused Professor Swaran Singh, resident of Community Health Center Model Town and the unknown person who pelted stones.
The student is studying in the first year of MA in Mahindra College. This BA student of the same college knew the accused professor during her BA studies and he is a professor of Punjabi. There was a compartment in English in the final year of BA, for which the student had paid a fee for paper re-checking. The result of DMC and BA final year was in the waiting list, so the student told the problem to the accused professor. To solve the problem the professor asked her to have physical relations. The girl told her family about it and the matter reached the college management. The management formed an inquiry committee on May 13 and within a week, terming it a misunderstanding, a settlement was reached between the two.
The girl alleges that the agreement was made under pressure and comments were being made on her since the agreement. On May 22, when she was going home on a scooter, a man pelted stones at her near Tractor Market and said that if she accused the professor, she would have to face consequences. The girl fell from the scooter after being hit by a stone and the accused fled from the spot. SHO Harjinder Singh Dhillon of Police Station Kotwali said that based on the statements of the girl, an FIR has been immediately registered. The matter is being investigated, the accused has not been arrested yet.
