SAS Nagar, September 15 In the memory of late wrestler Bachan Singh Kumbhara, during the wrestling matches being organized in village Kumbhara, two flag wrestlers were the center of attraction.
The first of these wrestling matches was held between Lali Phagwara and Vaneet Alamgir in which Lali Phagwara defeated Vaneet Alamgir and won a prize of 71 rupees. The second flag wrestling match was a tie between Sushil Bahadurgarh and Samsher Dinanagar.
This wrestling fair is organized every year by the residents of village Kumbhara in Sector-68 of Mohali in memory of Baba Guga Zahir Pir and late wrestler Bachan Singh Kumbhara. More than 300 athletes participated in this wrestling competition.
On this occasion D. S. P. Harsimran Singh Bal blessed the wrestlers and appreciated the wrestling matches organized by the village and under the anti-drug campaign launched by the police, the youth were also made aware about the evils of drugs.
Wrestler Ravinder Singh Bindra, son of councilor and wrestler Bachan Singh from Ward No. 26, said that of course, the ancient sport of wrestling is slowly dying out in Punjab, but there is a need to promote wrestling and educate the youth of the villages. In order to encourage people towards wrestling, wrestling matches are being organized in Kumbhara for the past several years, in which renowned wrestlers not only from Punjab but also from other states participate.
