Garhshankar - District Health Officer Dr. Lakhveer Singh appealed to Velne Walia, who has been making poor quality jaggery for the last few days, that he will not start rolling in the district until the sugarcane becomes sweet and there is a possibility of making sugarcane jaggery. But some migrant laborers do not desist from making jaggery by adding low quality sugar to it. Taking action in this regard today, the food safety team under the leadership of the District Health Officer took major action against the manufacturer of low quality jaggery. About 40 quintals of jaggery and 25 quintals of inedible sugar were destroyed. These velnas have been closed till further orders. The District Health Officer has ordered all the millers in the district that no miller will make jaggery until the sugarcane is ready to make jaggery. If any person is caught making jaggery, strict action will be taken against him as per rules. Food safety officers Munish Kumar, Ram Lubhya, Naresh Kumar and Gurvinder Shane from media wing were also present on the occasion. On this occasion, District Health Officer Dr. Lakhveer Singh said that this morning suddenly 4 velnas plying on Hoshiarpur Phagwara Road were checked. A large quantity of jaggery was being prepared by mixing large quantities of inedible sugar in all the vines. Taking strict action on this, sugar was mixed with soil and put in the vessel used to prepare inferior jaggery and it was destroyed by adding a large amount of ash, so that no one falls ill after eating this jaggery. He said that people from abroad come to Punjab to eat jaggery, maize bread and mustard greens. But these Milvat khors did not leave even this jaggery. He also told that some Punjabi landlord brothers and businessmen are also in touch with adulterants. Those who are selling sugarcane to these migrants ahead of time for their own selfish reasons and some greedy traders are trying to earn good profits by selling jaggery. But they are playing with people's health. They have not even received a food safety license from any jaggery manufacturer. He appealed to all the vendors that they will not obtain food safety license before selling the food otherwise strict action will be taken.
