
Farmers have decided to stage a massive sit-in at the district headquarters on September 4
Chandigarh, August 26 Five farmers' organizations Bharati Kisan Union (Rajewal), All India Kisan Federation, Kisan Sangharsh Committee Punjab, Bharati Kisan Sangharsh (MANSA) and Azad Kisan Sangharsh held a meeting at Kisan Bhavan in Chandigarh. Balbir Singh Rajewal, Prem Singh Bhangu, Kanwalpreet Singh Pannu, Bough Singh Mansa and Harjinder Singh Tanda along with the presidents of their respective unions along with 172 farmers leaders from across the state participated in the meeting. On this occasion, the organizations have decided to stage a massive dharna at the district headquarters on September 4, where demand letters will be handed over to the Deputy Commissioners demanding immediate compensation to the victims. President of Indian Kisan Union Rajewal Mr. Balbir Singh Rajewal said that during the meeting, serious notice was taken of the flood situation in the state, due to which crops and houses have suffered a heavy loss of more than 6000 crores. Subsequently, Pong Dam and Bhakra Dam overflowed and released excess water without warning, causing inundation in about 8 districts of the state, destroying the second-sown paddy crop. During the meeting, it was said that the claim of distribution of flood relief by the Punjab government is completely false and misleading because according to the reports received from the state, Girdavari has not been done till date, then what to talk about giving compensation. The leaders said that the second flood was man-made as the dams were full to the danger mark while excess water was regularly released before the danger mark was reached. He said that during the meeting, it has been decided to call an all-party meeting at Chandigarh on September 9 regarding the issues of serious water crisis and water dispute, environmental pollution and attack on the federal system of the state so that the stance of the political parties on these important issues is known.
