12 storey building fire in Mumbai

Mumbai, September 16 A fire broke out in a 12-storey residential building in Kurla area of Mumbai last night, after which 60 people living in it were evacuated safely. An official said that the incident took place in Slum Rehabilitation Authority building number-7 at 12:00 pm last night. This building is right opposite Kohinoor Hospital.

According to the official, out of 60 people who were safely evacuated from the building, 39 have been admitted to the hospital due to the complaint of suffocation. A fire brigade official said that the fire broke out late at night. On receiving information in this regard, a team of fire brigade personnel with 4 fire brigade vehicles, several large tankers and other equipment reached the spot and started extinguishing the fire.

According to the official, the fire broke out in the wire and junk kept on the ground floor of the 12-storey building, but slowly the flames started rising upwards and smoke spread throughout the building, causing panic among the people. The firemen stopped the power supply and the fire was brought under control at 1.45 pm.

40-50 residents trapped in several floors of the building were taken out by the fire brigade personnel through the stairs. Of these, 39 persons complained of suffocation, following which 35 persons were admitted to the Corporation-run Rajawadi Hospital, while 4 others were admitted to the Kohinoor Hospital. According to the official, the condition of all the persons admitted to the hospital is said to be stable.
