
Stanford University Recognizes PEC Professors for Outstanding Research Contributions
Chandigarh, 19th September 2024:- Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, is proud to announce that three of its distinguished faculty members—Prof. Alakesh Manna, Prof. Kamal Kumar, and Prof. Sandeep Kumar—have been recognized among the top 2% of scientists globally.
Chandigarh, 19th September 2024:- Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, is proud to announce that three of its distinguished faculty members—Prof. Alakesh Manna, Prof. Kamal Kumar, and Prof. Sandeep Kumar—have been recognized among the top 2% of scientists globally. This prestigious recognition was announced by Stanford University on 17th September 2024 as part of their "World Top 2% Scientist List" for the year 2024, which honors the most influential researchers across various scientific fields.
Prof. Alakesh Manna has been recognized for his career-long contributions to research from 2002 to 2024. A faculty member of the Mechanical Engineering Department, Prof. Manna brings over 17 years of industrial experience and 21 years of teaching expertise. With more than 277 research papers and five patents, he has significantly advanced the field of engineering. He is the recipient of the Prof. D.N. Trikha Excellence in Research Publication Award (2010) and the Best Research Paper Award at WCE London (2016). He has authored two books, guided 23 PhD students, and his research interests include design and manufacturing, advanced and micro-manufacturing, fabrication of metal matrix composites (MMCs), and environmental pollution control. Prof. Manna is also a Fellow of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and the Institution of Engineers (India).
Dr. Kamal Kumar, Associate Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department, has been recognized in the "Authors Single Year List - 2024." This marks the fourth consecutive year he has received this honor. His groundbreaking research focuses on magnesium-based biodegradable implants, including bone scaffolds, microstructure refinement, and multi-layered surface coatings to control the degradation rate in such implants.
Prof. Sandeep Kumar, from the Physics Department, has been recognized in both the Single Year and Career-Long Research categories in the field of Materials Science. His work centers on advanced functional materials and nanomaterials-based devices for environmental and healthcare applications. With an H-index of 57 and over 14,500 citations, Prof. Kumar’s research has been published in numerous high-impact international journals.
