
A discussion on important issues regarding gender equality took place in Desh Bhagat University
Mandi Gobindgarh, August 27 – Desh Bhagat University recently hosted an impactful session led by Kayoko Govindasamy, founder of Hanaru Women's Health Fundraising Inc, Australia. The event brought together over 60 students and faculty members to discuss important topics around gender equality, with a special focus on addressing period stigma and the importance of engaging boys in menstrual health education.
Mandi Gobindgarh, August 27 – Desh Bhagat University recently hosted an impactful session led by Kayoko Govindasamy, founder of Hanaru Women's Health Fundraising Inc, Australia. The event brought together over 60 students and faculty members to discuss important topics around gender equality, with a special focus on addressing period stigma and the importance of engaging boys in menstrual health education.
During the session, Kayoko Govindasamy highlighted the urgent need to break down social taboos related to menstrual health and emphasized that an open and inclusive dialogue on these issues is needed for true progress in India. Environmental concerns related to menstrual health were also discussed. The male students of Desh Bhagat University responded with enthusiasm and a strong sense of responsibility and expressed their commitment to be agents of change.
In a symbolic gesture, 17 students accepted Hanaru's gift of washable sanitary napkins, expressing their readiness to take practical steps to break down the barriers of menstrual stigma. This initiative not only shows the students' dedication to the cause but also serves as an important step towards a more equitable future.
At the end of the function, Kayoko Govindasamy thanked DBU Vice President Dr. Harsh Sadavarthy, faculty and students of Desh Bhagat University for their warm welcome and active participation.
