Nawanshahr - Shri Guru Ramdas Sewa Society, Nawanshahr planted saplings in the memory of group of martyrs dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the bloody massacre caused by the military attack on Sri Darbar Sahib and other 37 Gurdwaras in June 1984. Speaking on the occasion, Society President Mr Sukhwinder Singh Thandi said that the Ghallughara of June 1984 is a painful saga of atrocities on the Sikh community, which was the result of anti-Sikh conspiracies of the Indian state. “The policy of suppressing and oppressing the Sikhs started from the time of Partition in 1947. The Sikh community was destroyed by military attacks on Sri Harmandir Sahib, Sri Akal Takht Sahib and other Gurdwaras. But the Sikh warriors learned from history and bravely faced the enemy forces and achieved martyrdom. He informed that fruit and flower saplings were planted on Banga Road Nawanshahr divider by the Society members in the memory of the martyrs killed in the anti-Sikh riots in June 1984. On this occasion, Amarjit Singh Khalsa said that thousands of innocent Sikhs lost their lives in the humiliating massacre of Sikhs in June 1984. He said that these saplings have been planted today in the memory of the martyrs and an attempt has been made to give the message that no matter how bad and oppressive you are, the Sikhs of Guru Nanak will only talk for the overall welfare. These trees will always give the message that no matter how hard you try to cut someone, no matter how hard you try to bring them down, the country will stand again.
