Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, September 10:- The eye donation fortnight was successfully completed in the government health institutions of the district. Acting Civil Surgeon Dr. Renu Singh said that during the fortnight, a large number of patients and other people went to government health institutions for eye examination and also 98 people filled consent forms regarding eye donation. Meanwhile, the health department teams also made the patients aware of the importance of eye donation. It may be mentioned that this fortnight was celebrated from August 25 to September 8.
 Dr. Renu Singh appealed to the people and said that even though the fortnight has ended, but despite this, they can go to the government health institution and fill the form for donating eyes on any working day. He said that donation of eyes is a work for the welfare of humanity and everyone should prepare to donate eyes by filling the form so that after death the eyes can be taken out and brought to a blind person and they too can see the colors of the world. Millions of people in India are suffering from blindness and most of them can see through donated eyes but sadly the number of eye donors in our country is very less.

Some important facts about eye donation-
The decision to donate eyes can be made before death and eye donation is done only after death. A form is filled to donate eyes. Eyes must be donated within 6 to 8 hours of death. A person of any age can donate eyes regardless of whether he wears glasses, eye surgery, contact lenses. People suffering from diseases such as AIDS, jaundice, blood cancer and brain fever cannot donate eyes. It takes only 10-15 minutes to remove the eyes and there is no mark or scar on the face in this process.
